The UK Speechwriters’ Guild is a pioneering group of people, committed to sharing knowledge to build a vibrant community.
The following services are available:
eMembership, £22, £14 per annum
Receive a monthly e-mail update, with news about what the group is doing, including details of conferences and training sessions. In 2009, we’re throwing in a free copy of Professor Max Atkinson’s book ‘Lend Me Your Ears’ – for all new members.
Membership, £150, £59 per annum
This includes e-membership, with a copy of Max Atkinson's book.
You will also receive our quarterly eight-page PDF newsletter 'The Speechwriter', with tips, quotations and tricks of the trade for the professional speechwriter. (Click here to download a sample copy). You will be entitled to discounts on training and conferences.
Furthermore, if the guild is approached with any details of in-house jobs, these details will be circulated to all standard members.
The membership pack includes a speechwriting checklist to use to evaluate your speeches and a reading list of 25 essential books (with reviews) which teach the craft of speechwriting.
Corporate Membership, £200, £99 per annum
This means that up to three of your company’s employees can have a standard membership, with entitlement to attend conferences and training at a discount, as well as entering competitions.

Training for Speechwriters
The UK Speechwriters’ Guild has two accredited trainers who run intensive courses throughout the year.
They run a one-day course for people who need to write speeches, either for themselves or for others. It is suitable for people who are starting out as speechwriters, as well as for those who would like to refresh and invigorate their skills.
The course is highly participative, combining theory and practice throughout the day. You will learn techniques for creating speeches that engage, persuade and inspire an audience through the use of image, metaphor and story.
The course covers: writing for an audience; the process of speechwriting; discovering your proposition; structuring your argument – and the use of rhetoric; using image, metaphor and story to engage and persuade and using visual language to help your audience see what you mean.

Use our Speechwriters
We have a list of the most eminent speechwriters in Britain with experience in the civil service, politics, entertainment and business. We even have writers who can help with an after-dinner speech, wedding toast or funeral eulogy. Whatever speech you need to make, we can put you in touch with someone who will provide you with an excellent service.
Seminars on Speechwriting
If you would like someone to give a speechwriting seminar to a school, university or company, the Guild can recommend someone in your area.
UK Speechwriters’ Award
We want to encourage excellent speechwriting. We publish a quarterly newsletter including extracts from the best speeches written in the recent past. We’re keen to launch an annual awards ceremony for the best speechwriters.
